The Pavilion Rehab Success Stories

Judith was admitted to the Pavilion with a diagnosis of endocarditis after a lengthy 9 day hospitalization. Upon admission, her goals were to be able to walk again independently to allow her to go home and continue to drive. Upon initial assessment by Physical & Occupational therapies, she was found to require assist with bed mobility and transfers, and could walk 20 feet with a RW with 3 liters of oxygen. Additionally, she required extensive assist with washing, dressing and toileting due to weakness. Judith’s rehabilitation stay was interrupted briefly by an additional hospital stay when she became increasingly short of breath and was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and respiratory failure.

At the time of discharge, Judith had achieved an independent level of mobility with rolling walker on the nursing unit. She was independently completing her activities of daily living, and was no longer requiring oxygen support! She was able to return home independently with home care services as needed. When asked about her rehabilitation stay at the Pavilion,Judith stated, “Therapy was great. Everybody was so nice. It’s amazing I am a different person from when I came in. “

Tatyana is a 51 year old female who was living alone in a 2 story condo with her bedroom and bathroom on the second floor. She presented to the hospital with persistent dizziness and inability to complete daily tasks. She underwent an MRI which indicated that she had a stroke. Upon admission to the Pavilion, she required assist with all ADL’s and mobility with a walker and was still having dizziness with changes in position. She participated in skilled PT/OT during her 10 day stay, and upon discharge home, she was independent in all aspects of mobility without any assistive device.

Tatyana reported that “Everything was great, I feel so much better than when I came in.” “I can do everything I did before.” She further reported that they therapy really helped her become more motivated for activity and is looking forward to spending time in the gym at her condo complex upon return home.

Paul is an 81 year old gentleman who was admitted to the Pavilion following a prolonged medical course which resulted in an amputation of his left leg below the knee. Prior to his hospitalization, Paul led an independent and active lifestyle, including regularly going to the gym and walking 2 miles on the beach several days each week.  At the time of his admission to the Pavilion, he required physical assistance with all ADL’s and mobility.  Paul was highly motivated to work with therapy, initially achieving independence at wheelchair level while nursing worked to heal his surgical wounds. 

Once cleared by the doctor, Paul worked alongside therapy with a prosthetist to fit him for a below-knee prothesis.  Upon delivery of the prosthesis, Paul quickly advanced to independently walking throughout the facility with a walker and managing stairs with someone within arms-reach! He was able to discharge home with services, meeting his rehab goals at the Pavilion.  When asked what he would tell others about his stay at the Pavilion, he enthusiastically stated, “Patients and staff are very nice and the food is very good. The rehab staff was awesome and helped me a lot throughout this new phase getting adjusted to my prosthetic.”
